Having been enabled to depend absolutely upon God during the past thirty years, through the knowledge gained from a study of Christian Science, I can but feel the deepest gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of this healing religion. I can remember as a child having experienced many so-called children's diseases, such as measles, chicken pox, croup, and throat trouble, with no other remedy than perfect trust in the ever presence and omnipotence of God. As a young man I can remember having been freed through the application of the teachings of Christian Science from two very trying and seemingly severe cases of inflammation, one of which was believed to be due to a fall.
I want to tell particularly of a healing I experienced about eight years ago because of the evidence it presents that the teachings of Christ Jesus when scientifically applied do bring desired results. Upon applying for life insurance I was told that the abnormal condition with which I had apparently been afflicted from very earliest childhood was a hernia, and I was advised to have an operation, being assured that as I grew older it would give me more trouble and might at any time result in death. At the end of a week, through the loving help of a practitioner and consistent effort on my part to know there is nothing imperfect in the universe of a perfect God, I was freed from worry and ready to let the matter rest with God.
About this time I was accused of stealing, and the one who made the accusation used most extreme means to prove me guilty. Through all this trial my dependence was entirely upon God and never once did I entertain thoughts of malice, hatred, revenge, or any uncharitable feeling whatsoever. Eventually that which was thought to be lost was found to be in its proper place, and the mistaken one came and apologized. Appreciating the mental state this one seemed to be in and fully realizing my duty toward a fellow being, I said that long ago she had been forgiven and then I offered her Christian Science as a help in her trouble. Shortly after this experience I became conscious that I was entirely free from the so-called hernia. This to me was clear evidence that in the proportion we obey the admonition of Paul to the Philippians, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," are we free from all physical encumbrances. I am so grateful for the joy, happiness, comfort, and freedom that one gains through Christian Science.—Manchester, N. H.
