Eight years ago, when I was very much in need of physical healing, my sister-in-law recommended that I visit a Christian Science practitioner. My first thought was one of fear, since I believed Christian Science was something mysterious and evil. I knew very little about God, but wanted to know something that would bring me into closer relationship with Him. I therefore tried to pray, to find out the right step to take, for I was at the place where doctors had failed to help me. I then decided to go to a practitioner and find out for myself about Christian Science, and not just be influenced by what I had heard about it. This decision has never been regretted, for I found that my thoughts about it had all been untrue. I was healed of a severe form of stomach trouble, and this healing has been permanent.
I had been brought up in the Episcopal church, and had been taught to believe that God sends sickness. It was a wonderful relief and release to know that God does not send sickness and that it is a perfectly legitimate thing to manifest health. I have had many healings, among which was that of the Spanish influenza, last winter. For these healings I am very grateful but more so for the better understanding of God I am gaining each day. I am learning to love all mankind instead of one or two persons, and it is making me so much happier. Living truly is the only way that I shall be able to express my thankfulness to God and my gratitude to our beloved Leader, and to all who have helped me to gain this better understanding of God. Christian Science is showing me how to do this.—Port Maria, Jamaica, British West Indies.
