Testimonies of Healing

It is now about eleven years since...

From the April 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is now about eleven years since I became interested in Christian Science. Previous to that I had been a semi-invalid for many years. The time came when all material remedies failed me. My married daughter had been in Science a number of years but I had never questioned her in regard to her religion and so knew comparatively little of its teachings. Since taking up the study of it I have been on the hilltop and in the valley, I have had struggles and triumphs, but would not give up what little knowledge I have of Christian Science for all the world might offer.

We as a family have had many healings. I was healed of stomach and bowel trouble of years' standing after trying everything in a material way that could be thought of. A sprained ankle was healed in two treatments. The injury occurred in the evening, and in the morning I got up and went about my work as usual. I have had an instantaneous healing of typhoid fever, and continuous coughing was also overcome instantly.

I shall never forget my first attempt to help another in Christian Science. My little granddaughter came to visit us and during her stay she had an attack of bronchitis, to which she had been subject for some time. She had been with me a great part of her life and with a doctor's help I had carried her through many of the so-called children's diseases, but now I could not use material remedies. I put her to bed and taking the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I sat down beside her and asked her to repeat with me the Lord's Prayer. Then I turned to my book and read for a short time, perhaps fifteen minutes. When I looked up she was sleeping sweetly and that was the end of the attack. I could relate many other instances of help we as a family have received. Our daughter was brought out of an attack of influenza when to mortal sense she was in great danger, and our son was in France for more than a year and came back to us sound and well.
