Testimonies of Healing

We first heard of Christian Science...

From the April 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We first heard of Christian Science at a time when my husband was a nervous wreck, and gradually losing the use of his right arm. The doctors told him that medicine would do him no good, but that he might try going to the far West and roughing it on a ranch for an indefinite period. This was impossible, however, as it meant giving up his business entirely. On the farm where we were staying that summer was a lady who, realizing our great need, told us of her wonderful healing through Christian Science and advised us to try it, which we finally decided to do. My husband went to see a practitioner and drank in like a thirsty child the truths she told him about God and man as His perfect idea. I think he was instantaneously healed, though he did not realize this for nearly two weeks.

My husband's experience led me also to seek help for various physical ills, such as chronic headaches, pleurisy, and an internal trouble. All these conditions, as well as colds, rheumatism, severe bilious attacks, nervous breakdown, and grippe have been overcome through this wonderful truth, and it has never failed, no matter what the difficulty has been. My first demonstration was over a badly burned hand and arm. The thought came that this was a splendid opportunity to prove the truth of Christian Science for myself. In ten minutes the pain was gone and in about an hour the inflammation had entirely disappeared. On one occasion I was healed of the effects of a fall, in which my neck and back were badly wrenched. I suffered greatly during the night, but early in the morning I asked for help in Science and was healed instantly.

I would like to say a word of encouragement to those who are experiencing slow healing, for I count the understanding of God gained during my slow healings as one of my greatest blessings. With all these blessings that have come to us,—and the half has not been told,—is it any wonder that my heart is filled to overflowing with gratitude to our dearly loved Leader, Mrs. Eddy? Her "Key to the Scriptures" has indeed unlocked the Bible with its rare treasures. I am grateful for all of her writings and for our splendid periodicals.—
