Testimonies of Healing

A little over eight years ago I began...

From the March 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A little over eight years ago I began the study of Christian Science in earnest. Before that I had been interested in it for a year or more, but had failed to appreciate it. At this time, with the help of a practitioner I was, within three weeks, lifted out of a hell of mental torture which had extended over a period of some six or seven years. As the result of this healing I seemed to stand upon a mountain top of spiritual enlightenment without any belief of limitation to bind me. Every problem that presented itself was greeted with gladness because it was another opportunity to prove this—to me—new religion of Truth and Love, and one by one the limitations of self-consciousness, financial lack, lack of self-confidence, lack of love, and many other claims were lifted. From being a telephone operator I was promoted to traveling supervisor within two years, although I had had no knowledge of the business at the time I started.

Having had to leave school at an early age I had always yearned for opportunities to study and read, but the outlook seemed hopeless. One year of college work was soon presented to me with all of its joys of study and companionship. Here I met a few others who were studying the same little book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. The following summer I spent six weeks at a summer resort where some of the most noted speakers and lecturers of the world congregated to give of their knowledge, and where only that which is good in art, literature, and wholesome surroundings was mine to choose from. Then came eighteen months with the army, among our boys. It was a time of happy, helpful, loving service among the blind and wounded, where loving words of hope and healing were needed, and what opportunities there were to help!

The good keeps coming, the truth continues to unfold. There are problems still to overcome and at times there seems to be no silver lining to the cloud, yet divine Love is omnipresent and when human will yields to the divine, when God's power and presence are realized, as at the Red Sea, in the fiery furnace, in the lions' den, the clouds part, the sea rolls back, the seal of the lions' den is removed, and the road lies before me straight and clear and beautiful leading on to greater joys, wider avenues of service, larger responsibilities and opportunities than ever before.
