ALL through the early Bible history we find that God promised men a most wonderful place called the promised land. It would be foolish to think that this land was created merely for a few people some thousands of years ago. "God is no respecter of persons;" out of His infinite love and wisdom He gives to all alike. So this promise, because it comes from God, must be infinite, and exists for all men now. The spiritual unfolding of the promised land is man's richest inheritance.
The promised land is in and of Mind and is therefore purely mental. It is the reign of divine Mind. Mrs. Eddy had a clear understanding of this, for she defined heaven in the Glossary of Science and Health thus (p. 587): "Heaven. Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul." This, then, is the true promised land that all men are seeking. Some seek to attain it by the broad way, namely, the belief of life in matter; but we have Jesus' rebuke for this, for he said, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction." This great teacher of Nazareth also pointed the way when he told the doubting Thomas, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." Of course there could be no other way, for the Christ, Truth, alone overcomes and destroys all error.
It is easy to see that for man to inherit all good he must be found in the divine sonship. Jesus said, "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven," and he proved this to be true. Thus we find man as the son of God heir to all things spiritual. This being the truth about man, he could never be in any place but the divine consciousness, and he is in that place now and nothing can change this fact.
