Testimonies of Healing

Words cannot express what Christian Science...

From the September 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Words cannot express what Christian Science has meant to me in the last fifteen years. My first healing was of a difficulty with which I had suffered for two years. I had had much medical attention and one operation, but was left in a worse condition than ever. At this time Christian Science was recommended to me; and, with the help of a practitioner, I was healed in one week. I was not only grateful for the physical relief, but the better understanding of God and of the Bible was the source of much joy to me.

In the early spring of 1916 I was called upon to prove whether or not I had supreme trust in God. I was taken suddenly very ill with what was diagnosed by the physician as an abscess, which was discharging into the blood; at the same time a tumor was discovered. An immediate operation was advised; and, then, only a very little hope of saving my life was held out. But knowing, as I did, that God is all-power, I was willing to trust myself in His hands; and with the loving and patient help of a practitioner I was healed. This healing was slow, but sure; and as I grew in understanding I also manifested greater physical harmony. I was unable to eat for about three weeks; and of course no medicine was taken. Thus it was proved in some measure that Spirit alone sustains and nourishes. Hemorrhoids also made their appearance, but were quickly reduced to their native nothingness. Many other complications were destroyed by the power of Truth. This healing has meant so much to me; for now I know that "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me," and that "love never faileth (Rev. Ver.). We have had many other healings in our family. Rheumatism, eczema, influenza, ptomaine poisoning, and numerous children's diseases have been overcome.

I am very grateful for the Christian Science Sunday School, and for the privilege of teaching in it. I stand in awe before the wonderful insight of our Leader in establishing Christian Science on a sure foundation, and the many channels for growth she has planned that are open to the earnest student. It is my greatest desire to live worthy the name "Christian Scientist."—
