Testimonies of Healing

At a time when all material means...

From the September 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At a time when all material means resorted to had failed, and it was said I had but few weeks to live, we turned to Christian Science; and I was quickly healed of what had been pronounced tuberculosis by physicians whose care I had been under continuously for a very long time.

I had suffered for a number of years, not knowing what it meant to be completely free from pain, or distress of some kind, and manifesting alarming symptoms so frequently that fear seemed a constant companion. I loved life, and clung to it tenaciously, feeling I had a right to live, and confident that if we but understood the teachings of Jesus I should be free. However, when Christian Science was first brought to our attention, it did not occur to me that this might be a way to the healing I longed for, and I refused it; but at last, when there seemed no hope, we turned to it, with little faith and no understanding. When it came to me, I had been confined to my bed for a number of weeks, and the many and varied disease pictures seemed very real; but in spite of all this I was soon made to realize, from the relief received, that a power I had not known was at work for my benefit. My first evidence of its efficacy came after my first treatment, when, for the first time in two years, I slept naturally for a number of hours without a drug. I never again was given a drug of any kind.

Although examinations previously given had revealed to the physicians a diseased condition of one lung and the other practically consumed, and other parts of the body affected by the disease, every trace of pain and disease was removed by Christian Science treatment; a noticeable depression over the right lung very soon vanished, and I was able to fill both lungs perfectly in breathing. Mrs. Eddy says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 105), "After my discovery of Christian Science, I healed consumption in its last stages, a case which the M. D.'s, by verdict of the stethoscope and the schools, declared incurable because the lungs were mostly consumed." My healing was not only a proof that her statement was undoubtedly true, but also proof positive that those who faithfully follow her teachings can also heal so called incurable diseases, and bring comfort and relief to suffering humanity. This healing was accomplished over twenty years ago; and in these years the blessings from Christian Science have been innumerable and varied. Greatest of all, however, is the understanding I have gained of God's infinite goodness and loving care. I am inexpressibly grateful for all these blessings, and for the spiritual impetus that Christian Science is bringing to all mankind.—
