Filled with a sense of gratitude, I wish to testify to the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. In the month of November, 1921, I was suddenly taken with great pain in the rectum. As I had a high fever, my husband advised calling in a doctor. Being interested in Christian Science, I did not wish to consent to this. After a sleepless night, however, the pain and fever grew so much more violent that we called in a doctor, who said I was suffering from an anal fistula. He also said that I should go to a hospital, as an operation was the only remedy. This I would not agree to. He then remarked that he could not relieve the pain before six or eight days, and could not operate before then. He predicted that it would take another six to eight weeks for the wound to heal, provided everything went well, for it was a difficult case. When the doctor had left, I said to myself that God is the Physician, and I mentally worked in the way we are taught in Christian Science; but I found it difficult to overcome the fear. I asked a practitioner for help; and the pain left me after the first treatment. I was able to sleep that night, and could also walk a little. After the second treatment, I was entirely healed. The doctor, who examined me once more, said: "What has happened to you? You run around like an ant." I said I was quite well, which he confirmed; and he added: "It has disappeared. I have never had such a case before; I was convinced that you would have to be operated on."
My gratitude for this healing is very great; but even greater for the spiritual uplift which I have received through the truth as Mrs. Eddy has set it forth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This book has indeed become a "key" to the Scriptures for both my family and me, for its teachings have brought us the understanding of God as ever present Love, which heals and purifies.— Berlin, Germany.
