It is now over eighteen years since I was healed in Christian Science. Previous to this healing I had stomach and bowel trouble, which caused me a great deal of suffering. I could eat very little, always feared to eat what I really wanted, and was finally limited to a very simple diet, with no hope of ever being able to enlarge it. I suffered from severe headaches, and for a number of years wore glasses; also I had eczema on my face, and was troubled with rheumatism in one knee. For these ills I was always trying some remedy, but received no more than temporary relief. I had accepted these various diseases as adversities that would have to be borne; but through the affliction of one of our daughters I was led to the study of Christian Science.
Serious eye trouble came upon her. She was treated by one of the best eye specialists in southern California; but as she grew gradually worse instead of better, we consulted different specialists. No hope was given that she would ever be able to see again. In our despair, Christian Science was recommended to us; and as all other means had failed, we decided to let our daughter have treatment. She was taken to a Christian Science practitioner; and in three weeks she was entirely and permanently healed. She had nine treatments. She was also partially deaf, suffering from nose and throat trouble, for which she was to be operated upon as soon as her strength returned. About two months after she was healed of the eye trouble, I discovered that she was also healed of the deafness and the nose and throat trouble.
Having believed that I should always have a blind child to care for, I was so grateful for this healing that I began to do everything I knew to find out what this wonderful truth was. We subscribed for all the Christian Science periodicals and read them; we put the children in the Christian Science Sunday School, attended all of the church services and lectures, and I began a very earnest and conscientious study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and all of Mrs. Eddy's other writings. I was very soon healed of the stomach trouble, and had absolute freedom from any fear of the consequences of eating anything I wished. The other troubles were not healed so quickly, but I had proof of the efficacy of Christian Science healing and continued my study. Gradually, one after another of the ills disappeared until I was well, and I have so remained.
All the other members of my family have received help in Christian Science; but while I am very grateful for these physical healings, I am more grateful for the religion which has come into my life. Now the Bible is a daily study. Before knowing of Christian Science, I seldom attended church, and never thought of reading the Bible, except occasionally on Sunday; although I was a member of a church and had been brought up in a religious household.
The joy, happiness, contentment, harmony, and assurance of God's help that have come into my life since I commenced the study of Christian Science are more than I ever thought could come to one person. For all these wonderful blessings I am most grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy; and I am trying to prove my gratitude by being each day a better Christian Scientist.— Hollywood, Calif.
