The subject of Christian Science...

From the May 1923 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The subject of Christian Science was presented to me at a time of great physical need. I had been suffering for fourteen weeks from inflammation of the eyes. Our family physician and the specialists who examined and treated me stated that every membrane of both eyes was seriously affected and had been partially destroyed, so that I could not possibly see well again, even if conditions grew no worse. They intimated, however, that there was a possibility of entirely losing my sight. The future looked dark indeed; and I was filled with despair. My baby girl was three months old, and I had never seen her distinctly enough to know whether or not she had hair on her head.

At this point, a friend came in one day and related to me the healing, through Christian Science, of her young son from lockjaw when at the point of death. Her message gave me a hope that brought joy in the place of despair, and I could scarcely wait to tell my husband when he came home from work that evening. At first he ridiculed the suggestion that he take me to a Christian Science practitioner; but after I had related to him the healing of lockjaw just referred to, he consented to take me to a practitioner the next afternoon. The practitioner showed us how Christian Science was doing the work Christ Jesus did when among men, and his sincerity so impressed my husband that he consented, two days later, to have me discontinue the use of medicine and take Christian Science treatments. Within twenty-four hours from the time I began treatment, my sight was restored to such an extent that I could read fine print and thread a needle with fine white thread. Within a week every evidence of the inflammation had disappeared; and my sight has been perfectly normal ever since. The healing occurred eight years ago.

I am learning that error is not, because God is. Words cannot express my gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for this healing and many others in our home, and for numerous other blessings received through Christian Science.—
