Testimonies of Healing

With the hope that some one may...

From the May 1923 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With the hope that some one may be benefited, as I have been, by the study and application of Christian Science, as given to us by Mary Baker Eddy in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I submit the following experience. I did not take up the study of Christian Science because of any physical healing, but because it illumined the Scriptures for me, showing how the truth taught by our Master was again being demonstrated through the practice of Christian Science in overcoming sin and healing the sick.

When I first began the study of Christian Science, my physical condition was such that I firmly believed I had dyspepsia. With the hope of finding a remedy, I eagerly devoured any article bearing on that disease, but such only helped to fix the belief more firmly in my thought, until I was in bondage to fear and was not aware of the fact. When Science and Health was handed to me, the reading interested me from the very first, and I read with such absorption that when I came to the statement on page 222, "He learned that a dyspeptic was very far from being the image and likeness of God," that was the last of the dyspepsia. As I read that truth, the light dawned upon me, and my condition changed then and there: I realized my freedom from dyspepsia. That was in the year 1895, and there has never been a return of it since.

I used to think it was necessary for me to resort to some material remedy nearly every day. Since taking up the study of Christian Science, and applying its teaching to my every need, I find it more efficient than any remedy that I ever tried; and it has been my only one, for I have not used a material remedy of any sort, not even a lotion for the hands, since then.
