Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express gratitude, through...

From the June 1923 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express gratitude, through the Christian Science periodicals, for a healing which came to me recently by means of the power of Truth, as set forth in Christian Science.

In some manner, while lifting heavy weights, I injured my back, apparently straining the muscles at the hip joints. This was at the outset of a rather long automobile trip, during adverse weather conditions. There was need to make the journey as quickly as possible, and so concentrated work to heal the wrong condition seemed difficult of accomplishment. On the morning of the third day on the road there was a stiffness in the back, and as I made a jerky movement while dressing, the hip was thrown out of joint.

The sense of pain from this dislocation threw me back on my bed, and was so intense that I seemed unable to meet the error with the denial it needed. My wife looked through a telephone directory, but was unable to find any listing of Christian Science practitioners, or of a Reading Room where one could get information. As I lay on the bed, in a far from cheerful hotel in a small inland town of California, I realized that we were strangers in a strange land, as far as the evidence of the physical senses was concerned, but that God was as ever present at that moment as at any other time. I saw clearly that His healing truth was available and could help me without the aid of any one. Indeed, I knew there was nothing to do but to prove that fact.

Then began a struggle that lasted forty-five minutes, during which pain cried loudly and it was impossible for me to raise more than my head from the bed. Meeting every adverse condition with declarations of the truth about man, as taught in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the battle was finally won. I was literally raised from a couch of pain. Without any material aid whatever, the dislocated bone had gone into place, and I was able to dress, walk to the garage, and then drive for half a day through a mountainous country, where driving called for much agility of arms and legs. Within a few days a sense of soreness, which had persisted, was also overcome.

This victory over error was very inspiring, and I am grateful for the experience. I am glad publicly to testify to the efficacy of Christian Science as a healing agency, and to be another witness to the fact that the promises made by Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, are being fulfilled to-day.—
