It does not seem possible for me to express in words my profound gratitude for what Christian Science means to me. I have indeed found it to be the "pearl of great price."
For some years I suffered with mental depression, which was so great at times that I felt I did not care to live. I sought material avenues of pleasure for surcease from this strain; but, needless to say, was only plunged deeper than ever into the abyss of despair. As has been said, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." The light of Christian Science dawned on my consciousness, and I began to feel and to know something of what an omnipresent God really means. The work of regeneration was slow. To-day, however, I can say I am grateful for this slow healing, as it required constant study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as the application of its teachings, to prove their truth all along the way. I now know that true joy comes from spiritual demonstration and the overcoming of all that is unlike God, good. I know that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
I have also experienced physical healings in Christian Science. Among the ailments which have been overcome are influenza, pleurisy, quinsy sore throat, colds, and stomach disorders. The first two mentioned were each healed in about twelve hours' time.
I want to express my appreciation of the privilege of class instruction, and membership in The Mother Church and a branch church. I am grateful to those who are leading such pure and unselfish lives that they are enabled to help others who are struggling in the bondage of false beliefs. My heart overflows with gratitude to God; also to Mrs. Eddy for her unswerving devotion to the Christ, through which we are able to comprehend man's true relationship to God.—
