Before I became interested in Christian Science, from a sense of duty I read the Bible for its historic value. Now I study the Bible in connection with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for the spiritual truth that it imparts. This "Key" to the Scriptures has unlocked the treasures of the Book of books, the Bible, to my apprehension, whereby its truths become available to my daily needs.
The reality and availability of the divine law which Christian Science reveals was demonstrated to me fifteen years ago, when with two treatments I was healed of an acute throat and lung trouble that seemed nearly fatal. I was healed of the cigar habit at the same time; and since then have had no desire for tobacco in any form. In the past fifteen years God has been my only physician. I have proved there is a "balm in Gilead;" there is a "physician there."
About seven years ago, I was very suddenly imposed upon by error to believe I was approaching death. It was about midnight, and to mortal sense I was alone, in bed, and losing consciousness. I could easily have made my condition known to others in the house, but believed I was beyond human help. In my distress and extremity I knew that God, and God only, could help me at this time. I believed I was face to face with death; yet I had very little fear. Over and over, again and again, I declared earnestly and confidently. "God is my Life. God is my Life." In a few minutes I was healed. Since that time I have been free from the fear of death.
