At the time when Christian Science came to me I was ill physically and mentally. I was suffering from what the doctors call neurasthenia, and after many years of searching among creeds and philosophies for a God who was Love, I had given up the quest as hopeless. Christian Science was then little more than a name to me, but I had heard it was reputed to heal disease and fear, and in my extremity I turned to it and asked help of a practitioner. I shall never forget the great sense of joy and happiness that came to me almost immediately. I felt in very deed reborn. I could not explain it even to myself. I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and although I did not at first understand it, I had an instinctive feeling that I had found the God whom all my life I had longed for. When I read the book a second time, it was illuminated from cover to cover, and I began to understand something of the wonder and glory of God's creation.
Since that time there have been many trials of one's faith, but I am learning day by day that as we hold fast to the understanding we have gained of the divine Principle of the universe, which is indeed Love, it will neither fail us nor forsake us. For all that has come to me through the understanding and application of the teachings of Christian Science, for some degree of ability to help others, and for all the help that has been given me by the way, I am very grateful.— Wimbledon, London, England.
