"Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" I have too long delayed giving publicity to an expression of this praise. At the age of seventeen I was pronounced a tubercular patient by my physician; and this diagnosis was confirmed by many other physicians in examinations for life insurance, and in treating me for the many ills I suffered for more than thirty years.
In January, 1915, I resigned my position as traveling salesman, believing I had but a short while to live. The manager of the company for which I traveled predicted I would pass on within three months. My doctor at this time stated that the heart, liver, and kidneys were involved. I was taking drugs for each of these ailments, and was restricted in diet to liquids.
At this juncture a relative living in a distant city suggested Christian Science to me; but as I had never heard one favorable comment on Christian Science, but on the contrary many severe criticisms, I paid little heed to his suggestion until upon the receipt of his fourth letter. I reasoned then that there was no hope in material means and that I would try Christian Science even though I had been told it disputed the Bible. I began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy about the middle of May, and in about ten days had abandoned all drugs and material aids and had resumed my place at the table with my family, eating what was set before me, and "asking no question for conscience sake." I had learned that Christian Science does not dispute the Bible, but on the contrary proves the truth of the Bible.
