ORGANIZATION

From the October 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN the human endeavor to establish the brotherhood of man, the present-day demand of the entire civilized world for more unified activity makes a strong appeal to the Christian Scientist. For many years new organizations, societies, associations, and political parties have been springing up, with the avowed intention of furthering the interests of mankind by means of organized activity. Up to the present time such movements have not brought about the desired result. This leads one to the conclusion that there is something amiss in the motive for organizing, in the method of procedure in organizing, or in the basis upon which such organizations are founded—possibly in all three. This admitted, to whatever nation they may belong, those who sincerely and disinterestedly desire peace are making an earnest effort to uncover the specific error and to discover the logical remedy.

Long before the peoples of the world even dimly sensed this impulsion, the "still small voice" of Truth had reached the awakening consciousness of one spiritually prepared to receive the scientific revelation of man's true being and of his relation to God, thereby making clear the duty of men toward each other. Mary Baker Eddy, the Leader of the Christian Science movement, has, as the result of this awakening, made it possible for the students of her writings to be so thoroughly equipped for this very achievement that nothing but failure to make use in the fullest measure of their armament could possibly give impulse to a claim that anything has power to hinder the advancement of the movement which she has so courageously inaugurated. Mrs. Eddy has uncovered the specific error, and presented to the world the logical remedy.

Mrs. Eddy has discovered for us the right basis for organization. She has founded her enduring organization upon that basis. She has also shown us by precept and example the true motive for organization upon that basis. She has scientifically taught us the correct, logical method and rule wherewith to maintain and perpetuate our churches and societies. Therefore, every genuine Christian Science church and society as well as Christian Science Students' Association, from The Mother Church to the smallest Christian Science Society and Association, is destined to help in the liberation of mankind from disunion, to declare by their healing works the true nature of the at-one-ment between God and His universe, including man, and to show that it is based upon divine Principle. The motive of each organization must be that outlined in our Leader's words in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 165): "As an active portion of one stupendous whole, goodness identifies man with universal good." Hence the demand is that every individual, Christian Science church or society, and Christian Science Students' Association must express good.
