In the autumn of 1916, I heard about Christian Science. At the time I was suffering greatly from insomnia, fear, and agony. We consulted several doctors, and they gave me the strongest medicine—but without benefit. If for a few moments I fell into a slumber, I suddenly awakened in extreme fright. Hour after hour I would toss about on my bed, or walk from one room to another in despair. I went to a sanitarium for several weeks; but without any improvement. In my distress a friend advised me to try Christian Science. I did so, asking a practitioner for treatment, which was most lovingly given me. I was requested to read the ninety-first and twenty-third psalms. That night I slept for two hours, and the sense of fear and agony left me. After the second visit by the practitioner, I slept twice as much as the night before; and after the third treatment, I could leave for my home, three hundred and sixty miles from Stockholm.
As I do not understand the English language I had to read Swedish and Norwegian translations; and together with them and the practitioner's letters, I commenced to understand the Bible in a different and more spiritual manner than ever before. After three months of absent treatment, with my daily reading, I was healed of all my sufferings. Alone, without help, I could take care of my home and my two children. Through this spiritual awakening I regained peace and harmony, becoming a new woman physically and mentally. It is now eight years since this healing occurred.
I have had many proofs of the healing power of Truth. At the birth of my third child, I had Christian Science treatment, with the result that the birth was painless. The doctor, who had been present at two preceding births, could not sufficiently express his astonishment at this absolutely natural and painless birth. My own gratitude was overflowing. This child is now five and a half years old. He is very harmonious, has never been ill, and has never tasted medicine. Everybody is fond of him.
