In the year 1914, I was very far from being a well person, and upon calling on a doctor I was told that I had gallstones, which called for an operation. Instead of returning for the operation, however, I turned to Christian Science, upon the recommendation of a friend, who knew of it through his family but was not a Christian Scientist himself. I selected from the list of practitioners published in The Christian Science Journal the one I would go to see. Right here a great change commenced to take place with me. The practitioner, at our first meeting, told me as much as or more than I was ready to hear. Among other things she asked if I had read the Bible. My answer was, No; that I had tried to read it several times, but had been unable to find anything of interest in it. Then she said that she wanted me to read the New Testament. At the moment I did not think I would; but it seems I was ready, and therefore obedient. The first thing I found myself doing upon my return home was hunting for a Bible, which I read and reread, finding it the most interesting book I had ever read. I had treatment from the practitioner for a short while, and was cured of constipation of twelve years' standing. Then the tobacco habit of thirty-five years' standing left me; and this was followed by the complete cure of gallstones.
My daughter had lost the sight of one eye because of an ulcer, but in 1916 she was healed of this trouble. The ulcer was cured through the application of Christian Science, never to return again; and she has been able to see perfectly since.
The study and right application of Christian Science I find a present help in trouble of every nature; and to say I am grateful for it, and for the patient and loving help of practitioners, does not come near expressing my gratitude.—St. Paul, Minnesota.
