One day on my way to make a call, it was necessary for me to go down rather a long, steep hill, and quite suddenly I sprained my ankle. The pain seemed almost unbearable, but these inspiring words from the Bible came to me as a sufficient guide: "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." The pain left instantly. I made my call, and then started for home, about nine miles away.
About seven o'clock in the evening the pain began again, and the ankle became badly swollen. There being several guests visiting in the home, I begged to be excused for the evening, and then went to my room, where, alone with God, I denied sin and pleaded God's allness (see Science and Health, p.15). Again and again I declared the truth of being, realizing that here and now man exists as God's perfect reflection, conscious only of good. The next morning every bit of swelling and pain had disappeared.
In childhood I was a great sufferer from sick headaches. As I grew older I had them periodically, accompanied by severe nervousness; but after taking up the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in connection with the Bible, I was completely healed. I was also healed of a severe case of sore throat. I was able to be up during the day, but in the evening high fever appeared. A practitioner ninety miles away was called, and absent treatment given. I seemed very ill for two days; but on the third day I was as well as usual, not having the slightest sense of weakness.
