I attended my first lecture on Christian Science eighteen years ago, out of curiosity. My desire to know something of what Christian Science meant must have made it possible for a neighbor, who had repeatedly heard me complain of liver trouble, to offer to help me. I consented, and received almost instantaneous relief. After that I was very grateful, and attended Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Soon, however, I fell out of the way of right thinking, and before many years had elapsed was again made uncomfortable through bilious attacks. Having unsuccessfully tried materia medica, I again sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner. Help was given until the liver complaint, supposed to be an inheritance, was healed. A complete cure was effected; and I caught my first glimpse of what God, as the creator, could mean to me.
Since then I have progressed in Christian Science. It is natural for one to wish to be rid of physical suffering, but the desire to be rid of sin is of slower growth. I had often tried and often failed, but made my first great step toward overcoming sin when I read in "Unity of Good" (p. 20) Mrs. Eddy's statements under the heading "Rectifications":
"First: God never made evil.
"Second: He knows it not.
"Third: We therefore need not
fear it."
