I want to tell how grateful I am for having been brought up as a Christian Scientist. Every day I realize more what this has meant and is meaning to me. I have never turned to any other system for healing, and have always found wonderful help and guidance in the affairs of everyday life. Many minor ailments have been overcome with the help of a practitioner, and sometimes through my own understanding of Science.
I should like to tell of one healing, in the hope that it may be helpful to some one. I had left school before the end of the term, as I was supposed to be "run down;" and while staying with some relatives who were not interested in Christian Science. I became very ill. A doctor was sent for, and pronounced my case a bad attack of diphtheria. A telegram was sent to my mother, who arrived on a Monday, having previously arranged for a Christian Science practitioner to help me. Before she arrived I had been able to eat only a little bread and milk, as my throat seemed very painful. On Tuesday I was eating heartily, and in a week was perfectly well and traveled home to Ireland. I was taken to a bacteriologist in Dublin to be examined because of the belief of infection. He said that certainly my throat appeared as if I had had diphtheria, but that otherwise he could find no trace of the disease.
