About a year ago, my small daughter returned from school one day with a sense of great discomfort, and by evening was so feverish that a practitioner was called. The next morning the fever was entirely gone, and on the third day the child was back in school, perfectly well. It so happened that at just that time the school nurse was examining the children, and found this child in perfect health.
One day the baby of six months became very ill, and again help in Science was asked for. The condition became such that the thought presented itself that perhaps this was a case which the law requires to be reported; so a physician was called to diagnose the case, and she announced it a case of smallpox. The health officer announced very decidedly that the baby could not live through the night. But the baby did recover, and he is now well and strong, and, much to the astonishment of the physician, has not a mark on him. Another son also manifested this disease, but it was conquered by Truth in one day.
Perhaps as wonderful a demonstration as any was a healing of my own. I was unable to rise from the bed, such a serious condition of the same disease suddenly presented itself; but before many hours I was able to get up and do my own work and care for the children. The most wonderful part was the sense of peace I had, which so plainly showed God's protecting care. The children turned to the Christian Science textbooks as never before; and we are deeply grateful for the enlarged understanding of Truth and the love reflected by the practitioner, which so blessed us, and for Christian Science as given the world by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.— Milwaukie, Oregon
