About two years ago I was healed of poisoning after childbirth. To conform with the law, a doctor had to attend me; but I wanted above all else to have Christian Science treatment. So a practitioner came to me at a time when to human sense I was not expected to live. Through her devoted work I recovered. Later it was found that a very painful abscess had developed on my hip. This was overcome entirely through Christian Science treatment. Although the doctor expressed the opinion that the muscles of my hip were such that it would be necessary to have the hip massaged, I felt that the time had come for me to do my own mental work; and though it was very painful to get off the bed, and my leg seemed to have no strength, I was able to get up and dress by knowing that "underneath are the everlasting arms," and that God supports all His ideas. Each day I rejoiced to feel that I was growing stronger and more active. My complete healing came about two months later, when I was full of gratitude for the knowledge that Christian Science gives us. I had received news from home about the purchase of a house, as we were obliged to leave the one we had rented for some time; and the conditions were so harmonious that we were certain it was another proof that the problem, which had been left with God, had been solved, as we are taught in Christian Science.
I was deeply grateful, too, for a great sense of peace and freedom from worry while away from my husband and children at such a time. All through the seemingly long trial, and even in the darkest time, when it seemed impossible to find a connected thought, I felt confident that the trouble could and would be met in Christian Science. As Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 152), "Truth has a healing effect, even when not fully understood."
