With gratitude to God I acknowledge...

From the November 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With gratitude to God I acknowledge my healing through Christian Science. In August, 1917, I was taken with a burning sensation on my tongue which grew worse until my whole system became affected. The suffering I cannot describe. I could not sleep for more than one or two hours a night, and could not take solid food, my diet for several months consisting of milk and cream in small quantities. I did not take a drink of water for three months. There was no natural action of the bowels for nine months. I went to several doctors, and to a specialist who said he had practiced in Los Angeles for twenty years. He pronounced the trouble catarrh or cancer of the stomach. I was greatly reduced in weight; and finally my brother had me taken to the hospital, where I had treatment for several weeks. I grew worse all the time, until it seemed as if I could not live.

During my sickness I read the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I would try medicine a while, and then Science a while, until I finally decided I could not possibly get well, but that if I did God only could heal me. I had had several practitioners at times during my illness, and I now decided to give up all medicine and doctors. That was in August, 1918. The practitioner came one evening, gave me a treatment, and told me I must put into practice all the Christian Science I knew. I was also told to have all the medicines taken out of the house and destroyed. This I reluctantly did, although I had not taken any for several weeks. I tried to be obedient, as I did not think it was possible for me to suffer any more than I was suffering. Improvement seemed slow at first; but gradually, during the next three months, conditions changed, until the fear of food was overcome, and I ate everything, and the bowels were again normal. My neighbors marveled at my rapid improvement; and I thank God daily for my healing. I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for Science and Health, and to all the practitioners who worked for me, especially to the one who came when all had seemed to fail, and taught me how to put Christian Science into practice.

I hope this testimony will help some one who has given up hope as I had. All things are possible to God. Praise be to His holy name!
