With the desire to please another I went to hear a Christian Science lecture; and from that day I began the study of Christian Science.
I have been healed of severe headaches, car-sickness, and an internal disease so serious that I seemed to be passing on with hemorrhage. One morning I was too weak to sit up to take food. I lay wishing that Jesus or Mrs. Eddy could walk in and raise me up, when suddenly I realized the impersonal nature of the Christ and that Christ, Truth, is ever present to heal and to save. I felt so uplifted that I began to sing Mrs. Eddy's hymn (Poems, p. 4), which begins, "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power." After that I fell asleep, and awoke knowing I was healed. I got up and went downstairs, startling the woman who was in the house. But for a time the sense of weakness seemed very real, the least exertion causing me to faint. One morning I received a letter from a friend who had been helping me. She said, "God can multiply your blood corpuscles as He did the loaves and the fishes." Again I got a clear glimpse of the nature of spiritual law operating independently of matter. From that day I began to get strong; I went away for a month, and returned perfectly well. Some of the neighbors did not recognize me. The healing has been permanent.
Since then I have been through deep waters; but each experience has brought me a fuller consciousness of God as ever present Love, sustaining, supporting, and supplying us with all good.
