I desire to express my unbounded gratitude for the gift of Christian Science to humanity. For seventeen years it has been healing my sicknesses, destroying fear, and correcting temperamental errors; and in all that time I have not had medical treatment or used material medicines of any kind.
I have found in Christian Science the light that leadeth unto the perfect day, the religion of progress— that teaching of which John the Baptist spoke when he quoted the prophecy, "Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth." That which in my experience seemed a mountain of evil, after I took up the study of Christian Science was made "low," and disappeared; valleys of depression, of self-condemnation and self-depreciation have been filled with the sweet consciousness that God's idea can reflect only the perfection of the Father-Mother God, the only cause and creator. Many a crooked and warped view of life, growing out of the belief that life is material and that man suffers as a result of God's law, has been "made straight" as a result of this teaching, producing a mental and physical freedom that was unimagined before this light came into my life. In the hope that it may cheer the weary and heavy-laden, and that some may be encouraged and made to hope again, I should like to say that I have found the promises in the one hundred and third psalm a daily reality: "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's."
Divine Love has indeed forgiven— revealed and destroyed from my experience—numerous faults of character which were unlovely; He has redeemed my soul (sense of life) from destruction by revealing God as Life and the true sense of life as eternal. He is continually crowning me "with lovingkindness and tender mercies," and satisfying my mouth "with good things,"—happier, holier, healthier conversation and thinking,—so that my youth "is renewed like the eagle's," and the eternal wellsprings of joy are kept pure and sweet.
