In thinking of the things for which I am most grateful to-day, I find it is for God's great goodness to all mankind; for the increased protection we have as we grow in the understanding of what God and man are; and for God's tender, loving care for those on the journey from sense to Soul, His constant presence with us, enabling us to say with the Psalmist: "O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. . . . If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee."
Christian Science has been a light unto me for the past nine years, and has healed me of many diseases. My first healing was of blood poisoning. While I was suffering from this a friend asked if I would read a Christian Science Sentinel. She was so sweet in presenting the truth, saying to me, "You might get something out of it; anyway, it won't hurt you, and it might do you some good." I promised to read, and did, with the result that in three days I was healed and moved home from the sanitarium. Another friend brought me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and there I found a remedy for all problems—physical, mental, and financial. I was healed of influenza during the epidemic of 1918. I have also been healed of tuberculosis, and of an organic difficulty of over fifteen years' standing. I underwent an operation to adjust this condition, but in a short time the old trouble returned. Through my desire to learn more about this newfound truth, I forgot all about this organic trouble until finally it occurred to me that I was not suffering any more from it, and that I had been healed just through reading the Christian Science textbook. I wanted to shout for joy; and the words of John in the Apocalypse came into my consciousness: "Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth."
I thank God for the many blessings bestowed on me since taking up the study of Christian Science, and for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, who fulfilled the law given us by Moses, and who finished the work he had to do: "I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do." I am especially grateful for our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has explained and defined this law and left nothing for us to do but to learn and apply this great truth, which frees us from the bondage of material sense. I am also profoundly grateful for the privilege of class instruction, which has brought more light, joy, and happiness into my experience. I am grateful for the friend who brought the first message of divine Love to me, and to the many others who have helped me along the way.—Monroe, Louisiana.
