Over forty years ago we had to bear a very great sorrow, not knowing then anything about Christian Science. Later, when error again made its appearance in the family,— for according to the doctor's verdict a child was dying,—we turned to Christian Science, my husband having heard about it; and the child was healed. The child had whooping cough; then membranous croup was added. The doctor said that on account of the cough, the croup could not be healed. After some faithful Christian Science treatments, however, in four weeks the child was healed, restored almost from death to life. Another boy contracted scarlet fever at school, and was healed through absent treatment. Not one of the other children had the disease, although it is claimed to be contagious.
My husband, while overlooking a building under construction, not noticing that there were no stairs, fell through to the basement. He lay there in a heap, and was brought home limp. I did not know him, so distorted with pain was his face, and he had to be lifted and carried. I called a Christian Science practitioner. With her loving help, he was able to walk within a week; and in about three weeks he could walk without a cane, being completely healed.
One of my own healings was instantaneous. I had a very bad cough. One morning I thought: This will not do any longer, because I know that God does and will help; I will try for one hour not to cough, then one more, and yet another. But there was not another sound, and no more pain. Then I knew Christian Science had healed me the minute I was in earnest.
