About seven years ago, I came to Christian Science for help for a serious chronic, and at that time acute, digestional disorder. It seemed, due to the sense of weakness caused by the inability to eat or retain food, that I should be unable to conclude my year of teaching. I received not only the healing for which I came to Christian Science, but that which I desired even more—a satisfying and demonstrable understanding of God. Since that time Christian Science has, when rightly applied, met my every need.
A few months ago, I awoke one night apparently very ill, and rising to cross the room, lost consciousness. This had occurred a second time when some one came to me asking what could be done. Since no one in the house had any knowledge of Christian Science, and it seemed that the condition was likely to recur, my first thought was to give the name of a Christian Science practitioner and ask that help be called. Then came the realization that Life is God, eternal, untouchable, inextinguishable, and that even if I should pass through the experience called death, I should be just as conscious of Life the moment after as the moment before the experience. Then I realized that consciousness, too, is of God, and cannot be lost for even an instant. With this I was able to answer that I was confident I should be all right, and felt that I needed nothing. I awoke the next morning unable to arise, but was soon able to call a practitioner and tell her of the condition. I was then able to begin preparing for the day. I took the train at the usual hour, arrived at my destination practically free, and before night found myself entirely healed.
I was grateful for the answer which this experience brought to a question that I had asked myself as a younger Scientist: What would I do in a crisis? I found that in a crisis Truth was with me and healed me.
