"WHENCE I CAME"

From the April 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRIST JESUS displayed an unwavering confidence in his divine sonship, and he pronounced that relationship to be the direct and only source of his power over matter and matter's progeny—sin, disease, and death. When the Pharisees sought to discredit him, he said, "My record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go;" and this realization of man's spiritual origin gave Jesus dominion over material law and "over all the power of the enemy."

Jesus had absolute faith in his unity with the Father. He said, "I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things;" and again, "He that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him." He made plain to his followers that his unparalleled works were the natural outcome of the understanding of his Father's will, and of glad obedience thereto.

The inspired Leader of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, saw this point very clearly; and throughout her writings great emphasis is placed upon the origin of the real man and his birthright of dominion. We are admonished to keep always in thought, as Jesus did, that man is the child of God, Spirit, and that he is therefore spiritual, perfect, the image and likeness of good.
