When I first took up the study of Christian Science its students did not have the many helps they have today. We did not have the many church organizations and Reading Rooms, neither did we have all of Mrs. Eddy's writings and the periodicals; so progress was slow. Mine seemed extremely so. However, I was able to demonstrate in a small way the little understanding I did gain, so that I was convinced of the practicability of its teachings and their adaptability to my everyday need. The study brought a peace and comfort that nothing else did, but it was years before I gained a satisfactory understanding of God. I had never believed God to be a corporeal person, but just what was His nature was the one question uppermost. Finally there dawned on my consciousness what Mrs. Eddy has so plainly stated in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," that God is divine Principle. This gave strength to my feeble efforts and enabled me to see that the Bible teaches God as the Principle of all that really exists. Then the study of the Bible became a pleasure, whereas before it had been read only because I felt it to be a duty.
I have experienced many beautiful healings through Christian Science. Some twenty-two years ago, I was completely healed in less than two weeks of a very severe case of inflammatory rheumatism. Some years later, through the work of a loving practitioner, I was healed of muscular rheumatism. To human sense I was in a very bad condition, the trouble having affected the heart. I was unable to move myself or to be moved without much suffering.
A family of three children, now grown, have never had anything but Christian Science help; and I have always been so grateful for the protection from contagious diseases which Christian Science afforded them while they were attending school.
