For many years Christian Science has been my only help and comfort, in every difficulty that has presented itself. When it was brought to me, I was not in need of physical healing, but my mental condition was restless and unsatisfied, and I seemed to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Christian Science entirely altered my outlook and habit of thinking, and gradually mental depression yielded to joy and harmony. I have had many healings from so-called minor troubles, such as burns, falls, and a hard lump on my left wrist.
One Wednesday evening I attended the usual testimony meeting at our branch church and was soon conscious of not feeling well. I worked, as we are taught to do in Christian Science, to know that no inharmony can touch God's child; and I was able to follow the service till the time came for testimonies. Then I felt so ill that it seemed impossible for me to remain in the building, and I made preparations for leaving. At this point my attention was drawn to a testimony being given, in which the speaker expressed gratitude for having learned in Christian Science to know God as "our Father;" and he went on to speak of the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, found in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (pp.16,17). This helped me to grasp the meaning of the fatherhood of God; and I was in such need that I mentally cried, "Father, help me to make this demonstration, for I know Thou art my Life." Immediately fear subsided; and I felt a flood of gratitude to God for deliverance, and to our Leader for her work in making this knowledge available in a practical way. The complete healing came before the meeting closed, and I was able to take a long journey home in comfort.
