Testimonies of Healing

I like to recall one of our early...

From the September 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I like to recall one of our early experiences in Christian Science, because it convinced us that Christian Science does heal, and that we, with our very limited understanding, got results. My husband had just told me that he had almost decided that he must give up his business, possibly permanently, and take a long vacation in search of rest and recuperation. He said: "I have not told you, but daily I have to go to a quiet room in town and rest, my head is so tired. Some days I do not go to my office at all. But it is no better; I am growing worse. It is brain fag, from overwork, that great enemy to business-men. Is it not too bad, when I am so perfectly well except for this?" Recognizing his fear, and wishing to cheer and comfort him, I said: "This long fairy tale which you have just related would greatly alarm me, if there were one word of truth in it; but, you see, there is not. It is all a lie. Being the reflection of perfection, man reflects, or manifests, nothing underived from God. I refuse to believe that a lie can rob you of your business or your ability to conduct it efficiently. 'God is more to a man than his belief' (Science and Health, p. 425). Let us know the truth. Let us declare the truth so that error will not talk to you any more." So together, step by step, as best we knew, we affirmed the truth, and denied the error, as we are taught to do in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Finally, I remember we said we had done what we could, and we would leave the results with God. Perhaps two years after this, my husband said with great interest and earnestness: "Do you remember the night in the electric car, when I told you about my tired head? Well, it was healed then; I have not thought of it since! And I have never worked harder or longer than since then." This is only one of many, many blessings for which I am grateful, without measure, to Christian Science, to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to God.

I was also quickly healed of hemorrhage of the jaw after the extraction of a tooth. We called a practitioner for help, and in a few moments the hemorrhage lessened and I fell asleep and slept for several hours, awaking entirely free from the trouble. A Christian Science nurse was with me at the time the tooth was extracted, tracted, but as I was all right afterwards, she went home. Feeling, however, that all was not right, she came to my home and found me trying to overcome the hemorrhage alone, as my husband seemed to have some fear for me, and together we decided that it was best to call a practitioner. My husband and I have had many beautiful healings, and are glad to bear grateful testimony to them. —
