I have received so many benefits from Christian Science that I desire to praise Him "in the great congregation;" and I take this means of so doing.
My mother became a student of Christian Science when I was about nineteen. A few years later I was healed of a serious trouble through the loving help of a practitioner, but I did not become a student for many years. In September, 1912, I contracted a heavy cold, which developed into a bad case of bronchitis. Having been in bondage to this disease for many winters, and having tried all that medicine had to offer, without a cure, I decided to try Christian Science again. Before this cold touched me there had been a promise given to sing at a reception, and the practitioner assured me I would be able to do so. On the day of the reception it seemed impossible for me to sing. However, I was obedient, and went to the reception. When I uttered the first word of my song, every evidence of the trouble left me instantly. Whereas one moment there had been all the signs of a bad bronchial condition, the next instant every trace of disease had vanished. This condition has never returned. From that day I have been an earnest student of Christian Science.
About sixteen months later I suffered a terrible injury, and was taken to the hospital, a Christian Science friend going with me in the ambulance. I have always felt deeply grateful for this protection, for there is no doubt that the true thinking done for me at this critical time had a great deal to do with my being here to-day. When I reached the hospital an X-ray photograph was taken and a surgical operation of four hours' duration was performed, with little or no promise of saving my life. Through the faithful work of a dear practitioner, who sat by my bed for three days and nights, every medical law was broken and Life prevailed I was told by a physician that it was quite impossible for me to go back to my profession of teaching music for at least two years, without great danger to life and reason. My first lesson was given six weeks from the day I entered the hospital. Every good thing that has come into my life has come through Christian Science.
