Men have ever been asking the question, "What is truth?" And the question has been answered for each inquiring individual in proportion to his understanding of God. The Scriptures and Christian Science teach that God is Spirit, Life, Truth, Love. Seeking the truth leads into the spiritual and away from the material realm of thought, because whatever is eternally true is of God, Spirit. That which is not of God, good, is untrue, unreal, and can claim to exist only in false material belief. God is Spirit, All, and man is God created, that is, created like God; therefore, man is spiritual. All true knowledge, all that we can know, all there is for us to know, is the truth about God and His creation, man.
The life and teachings of Jesus were living expressions of the Christ, Truth, and were in fulfillment of the divine purpose. Christian Science teaches the Science of the Christ. In the original text of the record of creation, as given in the first chapter of Genesis, the creating force is Elohim, a plural term for God, the Father-Mother of man. We are told in this chapter that man was made in God's image and likeness; that He created him male and female; and that all God created was good. The true existence of man is therefore spiritual and good, and abides in God —Life and Love. Man is the highest idea of creative Mind. Spiritual vision may seem to be obscured by the mists of material sense; but sin, sickness, and death exist only in this false material sense.
Our progress out of the false sense of life is made through the true understanding of God. Progress is ever spiritual. It is made by gaining the true understanding of God. advancing to a higher consciousness, learning man's true status, and living in harmony with this understanding. Thus progress comes about through the study and practice of Christian Science, which, understood, enables the student to overcome error with Truth, healing himself and others.
