THE ETERNAL NOW

From the January 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In several of her published writings, Mrs. Eddy speaks of Christ Jesus as having dated the Christian era, and she gives the reason for this momentous fact; and on page 199of "Miscellaneous Writings" she states, "The marvellous healing-power of goodness is the outflowing life of Christianity, and it characterized and dated the Christian era."Here our Leader impersonated the divine goodness, which found so ready a channel for expression that Christ Jesus was enabled to make his unparalleled demonstration of the healing power of the Christ and thus become the Saviour and Way-shower of mankind.

Divine goodness is an attribute of God which found its highest expression through a mentality prepared for this most sacred of offices. Again, after many centuries, the same divine goodness found another, likewise of such spiritualized consciousness as to reveal its beneficent presence as the great healing and regenerating agency. How blessed are we who are privileged to profit by both revelations—by that which established Christianity in the receptive hearts of that ancient time, and by that which in our own times restates primitive Christianity in new and practical terms! Greatly do these Christians, doubly blessed of the Father, rejoice at the coming of each New Year when the thought of Christendom turns in holy contemplation of the Master's message, in this present day exemplified and clarified so perfectly that none could mistake its meaning and purpose.

Christian Scientists by demonstration are constantly proving the healing power of goodness to be universal, and since it is an attribute of God. to be available for all, everywhere. Understanding of divine goodness is replacing belief in an opposite called error or evil, and this process of substitution of good for evil is transforming the world. The coming of this transcendental truth to mankind is for all those so blessed as to receive it the advent of a new year, since it marks for each the appearance of the healing Christ, which transforms and renews consciousness.
