Testimonies of Healing

About ten years ago I was healed...

From the October 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About ten years ago I was healed through Christian Science of severe cold and sore throat while on a visit in the West, and from that time have applied no means of healing except Christian Science. I had constantly had colds, and though I had been treated by a practitioner several times, I did not understand the teachings, nor was I convinced that I had been helped. At the time of which I speak, I was urged to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and did so rather reluctantly. In a very few minutes, after reading the paragraph which ends with the sentence (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized," I saw clearly that I had given up faith in medicine but had not gained faith in God. So, turning to God for help and closing the book, I went to sleep. In the morning I was completely healed, and was free from colds the entire winter.

Needless to say, I rejoiced greatly in having found a practical religion, and have had many healings since, among them the healing of inflammatory rheumatism in ten days, of acute indigestion, and the greatest relief from headaches and stomach trouble. For all of these healings I am deeply grateful; but more than for these am I grateful for the better understanding of the Bible, for the ability to express more love, and for the desire that Christian Science has given me to consecrate my life to expressing good, lifting up the Christ-idea in my own thought and helping to bring this experience to others. However slow it may seem to be in becoming manifest in my life, I know that the joy and peace resulting from each step taken toward carrying out this desire have been beyond expression.

For membership in a branch church and the privilege of taking part in its activities, for membership in The Mother Church, for class instruction and the Association meetings, also for all the periodicals, I am most grateful; and I am striving not only to be grateful for all of these, but for Life, Truth, and Love, the necessity for which our dear and faithful Leader has revealed to us on page 3 of our textbook.—
