I am indeed grateful for the many blessings which have come to me through the study of Christian Science. About twenty-five years ago my wife met a lady on a train, a Christian Scientist, who lovingly offered her the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," to read on her journey. Soon after we were settled in our new home (as we had moved), I noticed that my wife had bought a copy of Science and Health; so I also commenced to read, and was eager to investigate its teachings. The simple and logical explanations of the Bible, which had puzzled me before, now brought a new light into my consciousness—I had read the Bible all my life, having been brought up strictly in an orthodox church, and had listened to sermons by great men.
Up to the time we commenced the study of Christian Science, we had the doctor almost continually. Soon after we began the study of our textbook, I found all the medicine dumped on the ash pile. My wife said to me, "We are through with that stuff." And no material means have been resorted to since that time. What was considered a very severe case of scarlet fever was quickly healed with the loving help of a practitioner; also measles and all the different phases of error which present themselves in bringing up a family have been overcome through our understanding of God, divine Love, and the loving help of practitioners.
Last summer I had to all appearances a very severe attack of ptomaine poisoning. I called up my assistant foreman, and asked him to come and get my keys as I would not be able to go to work. During this time I was in great distress. Being alone at the time, I declared the truth the best I could until some of my family arrived, and they telephoned at once for a practitioner. In about two hours I was resting easily. I continued declaring the truth that God is the only power and knowing the nothingness of error. Understanding of the truth gradually unfolded, and in a few weeks I was able to resume my work. When I went back to work my associates told me that my assistant had said he did not think they would see me at work any more. However difficult the problem may seem to be, full reliance on Truth will solve it. I am indeed grateful to God, to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, also for the services in a branch church; for The Mother Church; for class instruction. I am grateful to be a part of the great movement of Christian Science, which fulfills Christ Jesus' promise.—Ogden, Utah.
