Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has been my...

From the February 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has been my physician for over twenty years. It has enabled me to overcome many sicknesses and other discordant conditions. I have been healed of colds, pneumonia, pleurisy, laryngitis, rheumatism, sprained ankles, and minor ailments. It has helped me to overcome sorrow in times of bereavement, also to work out financial problems and destroy the sense of limitation.

Some of the healings have come quickly, some more slowly. I once had a very trying experience with a slow healing. It was from a serious injury to my arm, caused by a fall on the sidewalk when hurrying to catch a car. I found I could not move the arm in some directions. It was intensely and constantly painful; so I found it necessary to call for help, which was given by an experienced practitioner for two weeks or more, but with apparently little or no benefit. I became fearful that I should never have the use of my arm. At this time I was led to read what Mrs. Eddy says on page 401 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," lines 27 to 32, and after consulting the practitioner I decided to have a surgeon examine the arm to see if there were a broken bone or dislocation. He said, "No! but what is worse, the sensory nerve is broken and it will take much longer to heal." He also said: "We can do nothing for it. You will have to protect it from cold"—and so forth.

I realized there was a work of patience and perseverance to be done on my part. I did not lose faith in Christian Science to heal, but felt I must get a higher understanding of it. I believe the practitioner's work helped me along this line up to this time. However, I thought it best to stop the treatment and take up the work myself. I had had the privilege of class instruction, for which I was very grateful, and I had been able to help others; therefore, why not make this demonstration of healing for myself? Though it came about slowly, it was sure; and I had the normal use of my arm in a much shorter time than the surgeon had said. The slow healing made me strive all the harder for the understanding of the truth which heals; and I am grateful for this experience.
