I had been acquainted with Christian Science for some few years, but because of the prejudice with which I first approached it, the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, aroused antagonism. It was only when I came into closer contact with Christian Scientists and recognized their reflection of divine Love, that I felt Christian Science to be worth trusting and its teachings worth practicing. I gladly state that since that time I have been increasingly conscious of the protecting and sustaining power of divine Love, knowing that God is omnipotent, His purpose good for every one of His children, and His strength ever available.
I had previously been subject to attacks of epilepsy at varying intervals, and two years ago this condition, which had appeared to be yielding to the study of Christian Science, returned. I then asked for treatment in Christian Science, and during the period which followed I lost all fear of the disease and of the conditions which formerly appeared to herald it. From that time I have been free.
A more speedy healing took place a few months ago, when in forty -eight hours a severe attack of influenza was proved to have neither power nor reality. After struggling for some days against the persistent thought of disease, I felt too weak to continue work and unable to do more than hold on to the bare letter of Christian Science, and so sent a message asking for absent treatment. I did not know whether the message had been received, nor if it had been answered; but in twelve hours excessive heat left the body, there was a normal action of the bowels, and the pain had practically gone. The next day I was well, and resumed work. There were no adverse after effects, and a cough which had usually remained for several weeks, in similar cases, disappeared in a few days unnoticed.
