Just before taking up the study of Christian Science, I was dissatisfied with what I thought was life. I was a member of an orthodox church and always enjoyed the sermons and the work of the Sunday school, yet I always wondered what the "wisdom" and "understanding" could be of which we read in the Bible. However, I was led to investigate Christian Science and borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. What a joy it was to me when I found that religion was what I thought it should be. The words of Christ Jesus stood out most clearly, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
After about five months' study of this beautiful truth, I had to choose between Christian Science and the love of a very dear friend. Had this friend known the true meaning of Christian Science, the choice would never have been necessary. After a great struggle, Truth prevailed, and I took the side of Life, Truth, and Love. Therefore my first healing in Christian Science was of sorrow and separation. I had to realize what our Leader says in Science and Health (p. 57), that "happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love;" and I am very grateful to say that this healing has been permanent.
It is now over eight years since I commenced the study of Christian Science, and I am grateful that I have had no desire to use any material remedies; God has been my sole reliance for everything. Many discordant conditions have vanished with my own understanding of the truth, and others with the loving help of practitioners.
