Ten years ago, when I was suffering from a great grief caused by the passing on of a loved one, and had reached the stage where I had lost all faith in God and His willingness to answer prayer, a neighbor said to me, "I have the Christian Science textbook; would you like to read it?" As I said I would, she brought it to me. I started to read, and had been doing so only a short time, about two hours, when a great joy flooded my consciousness as I realized that what this book said was true. I saw there was no reality in death; that Life could not be interrupted for one instant. When my husband came home I told him about it, and he was so amazed at the change in me that he started to read the book with me. We soon learned that this book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was revealing to us the God for whom we had been searching. I realized that God does answer prayer; that the fault had been mine because I had not known how to pray.
Since that time I have had many proofs of the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. From early girlhood I had been subject to fits which would come on after any exertion; and as I grew older these became more frequent, until they were almost a daily occurrence. Doctors seemed unable to help me, so I stopped going to them. One day, about three months after I had started the study of Christian Science, while going about my household duties, I felt one of these fits coming on and, as usual, ran to lie down. Before I reached the couch, however, these words from our textbook flashed through my mind (Science and Health, p. 306): "But man cannot be separated for an instant from God, if man reflects God." I realized that I could not be unconscious for a single instant, for that would mean separation from God and I should not be reflecting Him. I was instantaneously healed, and there has been no recurrence of the difficulty.
I have also been healed of anæmia, with all the discordant conditions that go with it, by the loving help of a Christian Science friend. The whole inharmonious condition disappeared suddenly the following day after asking for help.
