"THY WILL BE DONE"

From the December 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With reverence, humility, and love I pray,
"Thy will be done."
Great peace comes with the words to-day;
Peace, joy, and thankful recollection of the hour
When faith in God replaced belief in human power;
When absolute surrender of self-will
Was followed by Love's benediction, "Peace, be still."

Just yesterday, it seems, I outlined when I prayed,
And begged God's sanction to the plans I made;
Nor knew I waited vainly for the promised Word,
Because I prayed amiss and was not heard.

When quietly I trust in Him with all my heart,
He leads me to discern and choose the better part;
And when I faithfully apply the truth I know
To every step, the progress being fast or slow,
And all the way keep loving, kind, and sweet,
Nor seek the answer while the work is incomplete,
Nor question what the answer is to be,
Transcendent, boundless good comes—not alone to me,
For gratitude reflects the light of Love divine,
And thus a neighbor's need is met as well as mine.
