Christian Science was brought to my attention about twelve years ago when our baby boy was healed of a hard swelling on his neck. An absent treatment was given in the afternoon and by next morning the swelling had almost gone, and in a day or so had vanished entirely. Wishing to find the reason for this, I started reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which had been in our bookcase for some time. Since then Christian Science has been our only physician. During this time I have witnessed many healings through Christian Science, physical, mental, financial.
The most wonderful experience to me was the healing of a dear one who under the laws of the state we were residing in at that time must perforce go to a hospital. One such institution refused her admittance unless they were allowed to operate, stating that unless this was done at once she would be dead by morning. We would not consent, so she was taken to another place and admitted with the understanding that an operation should be performed as soon as she was strong enough. But she kept getting weaker and weaker, and finally the doctor told me he was afraid to operate and the medicine was doing more harm than good. He was told to discontinue all medicine, which he did.
Then was the time we had been waiting for, and a loving practitioner took charge; but for several days the decline continued, and finally, according to the doctors and nurses, terminated in death, and she lay in this condition about two hours attended by one nurse who had become so attached to her that she refused to give her up. This nurse told me later that it was the prayers offered that saved her and brought her back. The operation was not necessary, neither was medicine; and in a short time, to the wonderment of all in the sanitarium, she returned home healed.
