One summer the branch of a fir tree flew back across my eye with full force and injured it. The thought that no evil can touch man relieved the pain quickly, and I went about my work. Friends who saw me in the evening advised me to consult a doctor at once, and this made me take a look at my eye. It was very red. As it grew worse, I was filled with fear that I should lose my eye. I had already communicated with a practitioner and knew the Physician who helps us; but still fear tried to master me; and it was only with the patient and loving help of the practitioner that this enemy was dispelled. It is true the eye looked very bad, and I discovered that I could hardly discern anything with the other eye. Thus both eyes were affected. Although my own understanding was not great enough to solve the problem, yet, thanks to Christian Science treatment, I was healed. Both eyes are well. They do their duty without effort or pain.
I had been obliged to be operated on twice for a goiter which was growing inward. In spite of my effort to think rightly, the situation seemed as bad as it could be. On account of pain and a feeling of fear, it was impossible for me to go to sleep. How long this would continue seemed easy to answer. One comprehensible thought remained: If you depend upon God, not on false seeming, what is right will take place. I pulled myself together again. Impelled by a sense of necessity I endeavored to reach the home of a practitioner. With difficulty I told her of my trouble. I could scarcely grasp what I heard when with her; but I managed to reach home with less difficulty. I ate something, which to my surprise remained with me; went to sleep, and did not awake for some hours. The same evening I was able to do some work which had been intrusted to me, without the fear of choking, and could eat and drink a little of something. Gradually everything functioned normally again. God's ever present help and protection did not fail when they were needed.
Again and again I have had the privilege of experiencing what a blessing there is in the application of the teaching of Christian Science, and it is my sincere desire to thank all who unselfishly offer support and help to those who falter. I also express sincere gratitude to the one who as Leader lived this teaching and gave it to us—its Founder, Mrs. Eddy. It is my endeavor to apply her teaching to the best of my understanding. Daily we have the opportunity to make use of it, and it never fails us when we need it and are willing to apply it.—Berne, Switzerland.
