Christian Science is proving each day to be the "pearl of great price," and the fulfillment of the promise of Christ Jesus that he would send us a Comforter that would abide with us forever.
Christian Science found me when I had lost all faith in God and the world. I was at death's door, and had been given up by my own friend and physician. At this time I met a friend who asked me to try Christian Science, and since all material things had failed, I was ready to take this step, though I had ridiculed this teaching so much that I did not expect much from it. I thank God that this dear friend was sent to me, as I might never have known of this wonderful truth through which I was brought face to face with the true Physician. It was through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy that I was healed of ulcers of the stomach, heart trouble, and acute indigestion. When walking on the street, I would have to hold on to the fences at times as my heart would seem to fail me. My food consisted mostly of broths and soups, as the eating of solid foods would leave me in agony for hours. When I think of the deep waters I went through I give thanks to God, for it has been proved to me that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."
My healing of the smoking habit came in a wonderful way. I was sitting near the fire one evening getting ready to smoke, and when I tried to lift a cigarette to my mouth my hand fell inertly to my side. At this moment the desire to smoke left me, never to return; and this was ten years ago. I had worn glasses constantly for a number of years up to the time I became interested in Christian Science. One day while in a restaurant I removed my glasses on account of the steam that formed on them, and placed them beside my plate. Leaving the restaurant in a hurry to catch a train, I left without the glasses, and to this day I have not needed to wear them.
