I cannot find words to express my gratitude to God for the good that has come to me through Christian Science, which was first brought to my notice by a friend in California who told me in a letter what a wonderful healing she had experienced. The doctors had said she had cancer of the stomach.
At that time, thirty years ago, I was living in the mountains in Washington, and my mother was very ill with bleeding piles. The doctor wanted to operate, but she would not consent. He gave her some medicine, but she did not get any help. She then said she was going to look into this teaching which our friend wrote us about. My mother came to Tacoma, found some Christian Scientists, borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, read the chapter on Prayer—and was healed. She had many other wonderful healings, and when I saw all these beautiful demonstrations, I too became interested.
I have been healed of headaches which I had had from childhood, fevers, throat trouble, burns, heart disease, stomach disorder, and sorrow when loved ones passed on. Recently I had a wonderful proof of God's help. I received a telegram but did not open it until I had done my mental work to seek "first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness," and in this kingdom of God I found peace; then I was prepared to meet what was in the telegram. It was to tell me that my only brother had passed on. I cannot be thankful enough to our dear Father-Mother God, as I was healed of the sense of sorrow. What a blessing to touch the hem of Christ's garment and be healed! The channels of Love are never closed. Every trial makes us stronger and brings us nearer to God. Our Leader tells us in Science and Health (p. 304), "Sorrow is not the master of joy." I have proved these words many times since I have been studying Christian Science.
