Testimonies of Healing

I have great reason to be grateful...

From the October 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have great reason to be grateful to Christian Science. Everything good that has come into my life, the peace, happiness, and the wonderful sense of security and protection, has come as the result of understanding what God is,—infinite Mind, divine Principle, Life,—the relation of a loving Father to His child, and our relationship to Him.

When I first started to read Christian Science, it seemed that everything was wrong with me and everything connected with me. I was sickly, had no vitality or strength, and weighed only ninety-two pounds. The doctors pronounced the trouble anæmia. My mother became interested in Christian Science and asked me to try it, or at least to read the literature. At first I would not even look at the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; but about a year later, becoming tired of lying on a couch all day while other girls were having a good time, I decided to read it. Before I had finished the first chapter, entitled "Prayer," I was convinced that the author really knew God. and that she must have lived very close to Him. I went on to the next chapter and all through the book. My healing began from the day I started to read. To-day I am the picture of health, and weigh a hundred and forty pounds.

I want to tell of the instantaneous healing of a burn on my hand which might have been very serious and very painful but for the instant recognition of the allness of Spirit and the clear, calm, absolute realization that in the realm of Spirit there is nothing that can be burned, or injured, or painful. I shall never forget the sense of joy and gratitude I felt when I again looked at my hand, for there was not so much as a red mark on it, and not the slightest sensation of pain. God is truly "a very present help in trouble." The overcoming of hatred I am especially grateful for. The ability to see the man of God's creating, made in His image, has freed me from the awful habit of hating and condemning. Again I want to say how grateful I am to Christian Science.—
